Emiel Jongerius: Guitar Heroes
As a guitar player I surely do have some
guitar heroes:
-
Mike Keneally. He has to be number
one on my list. I like the way he combines good old rock music with jazz and
ideas from the Frank Zappa idiom.
-
Buckethead
is also on the list. The way this guy can play is incredible. At one moment he
sounds like a pinball-machine, the next time it's something like new age, while
he also can groove.
-
Joe Satriani should also be on this list.
Widely considered as a guitargod I like him more than Steve
Vai. He tries to tell stories when he's playing the guitar, whilst
Steve is trying to show of all the tricks he knows...
-
Eddie Van Halen
also makes my high ranking list. Not only because of his brilliant rhythem
guitar playing (which I value much more than his excellent lead work) but also
because he was born in the same town as I am...
-
Surely some jazz guitar players should be listed here, but I can's make up my
mind about that category. I like Joe Pass,
Jesse van Ruller and loads of other guys of whom I allways seem to
forget their names. Feel free to refresh my memory...
Surely, there are a lot of other guitarists who have influenced my playing, for
instance someone like Ferdy Joly who currently plays in
Boh Foi Toch but to call him my all time guitar hero...
